Ph.D., Economics, University of Colorado BiographyKristin Klopfenstein is a Senior Researcher with the Texas Schools Project at the University of Texas at Dallas while on leave from Texas Christian University where she is an Associate Professor of Economics. She is an affiliated researcher with CALDER and is a part of theTexas team. Her research interests include accelerated learning, achievement gaps, high school reform, and higher education. As a researcher and program evaluator, Klopfenstein works hard to design rigorous research that is grounded in the daily experiences of students, teachers, and administrators. She has conducted extensive research on the Advanced Placement Program as part of a larger research agenda studying the educational access and success of black, Hispanic, and low income students. She is a contributing author and co-editor (with Phil Sadler, Robert Tai, and Gerhard Sonnert) of the forthcoming Harvard Education Press book, Promise and Impact of the Advanced Placement Program. Dr. Klopfenstein’s research has been published in leading economics and education journals such as Economics of Education Review, Contemporary Economic Policy, The Southern Economic Journal, and American Secondary Education. Utilizing her extensive knowledge of Texas’s longitudinal administrative data, she has been involved in grants from the Spencer Foundation, the National Science Foundation, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the Communities Foundation of Texas, and the U.S. Department of Education. Dr. Klopfenstein received her Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Colorado. Her involvement in education policy began in 2000 as a Faculty Research Fellow with the Texas Schools Project under the leadership of John F. Kain. | |
