Biography

Lawrence W. Kenny is Professor of Economics at the University of Florida. He has served as a Visiting Scholar at the National Bureau of Economic Research. He is a part of CALDER's Florida team.

Dr. Kenny’s research investigates the decline in the number of school districts; economies of scale in schooling; geographical differences in teacher salaries; private schooling; the effects of competition and government intervention on school efficiency; the effect of teacher merit pay on student achievement; and the impact of the elderly on school spending.

Dr. Kenny has also published widely on many public policy issues, examining the determinants and effects of term limits, estimating the impact of voting rights legislation, and examining how U.S. inflation and tax policies are determined. He received his Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Chicago.
