Biography

Luke C. Miller is currently a Research Associate with the Education Policy Center at the Urban Institute and an affiliated researcher with CALDER.

Dr. Miller has extensive experience in the analysis of longitudinal data from North Carolina and New York. Currently, he is the Principal Investigator on an evaluation of the effects of three high school reform models on student on-track progression through the mathematics and science course pipelines in North Carolina between 1998 and 2010. In another project using longitudinal personnel data from New York State, Dr. Miller is examining principal retention and the effects of principals on teacher retention between 1990 and 2008. Previously, he analyzed the New York data as well as data from approximately 30 other sources to assess the role of community amenities in the recruitment and retention of teachers at rural schools between 1994 and 2004. This work made extensive use of geospatial data.

Dr. Miller received his Ph.D. in the Economics of Education from Stanford University and holds a M.A. in Economics from Stanford University and a M.P.P. from Georgetown University.
