Fifth Annual CALDER Research Conference
On Friday, January 27th 2012, the National Center for the Analysis of Longitudinal Data in Education Research held its Fifth Annual Conference entitled "Human Capital Policies in Education: Further Research on Teachers and Principals." This year's conference brought together policy analysts and prominent scholars in education research to examine ways to promote greater student achievement through human resource policies related to teachers and principals.
Fourth Annual CALDER Research Conference
On Friday, January 14th 2011, the National Center for the Analysis of Longitudinal Data in Education Research held its Fourth Annual Conference entitled "The Research behind Race to the Top: Education Reform in an Age of Innovation." This year's conference focused on the research underpinning Race to the Top (RTTT).This year's conference brought together policy analysts and prominent scholars in education research to shed light on the extent to which these reforms matter for student achievement, teacher quality, and effective schools, and why.
Book Forum: Promise and Pitfalls: Creating a World-Class Teaching Profession
On Monday, April 19th, 2010, the National Center for the Analysis of Longitudinal Data in Education Research held a book forum for a new publication edited by Dan Goldhaber and Jane Hannaway, entitled Creating a New Teaching Profession. The forum addressed the question: Can reforming the teaching profession lead the way to a world-class education for America’s students in the 21st century global economy? Panelists included Chancellor of New York City Schools Joel Klein, AFT President Randi Weingarten, Dean of Penn State School of Education David Monk and Co-Founder and Partner of Bellwether Education Andrew J. Rotherham who weighed in on the practical and political promise and pitfalls of current reforms.
Third Annual CALDER Research Conference
On Friday, December 11th 2009, the National Center for the Analysis of Longitudinal Data in Education Research held its 3rd Annual Conference: Principal Effectiveness and Leadership in an Era of Accountability: What Research Says. This year's conference focused on educational leadership and management. The meeting brought together policy analysts, prominent scholars in education research, and educational leadership practitioners to shed some light on the extent to which school leaders matter for student achievement, teacher effectiveness, and effective schools, and why.
2009 NCLB Research Conference
On August 12 2009, the National Center for Analysis of Longitudinal Data in Education Research (CALDER) and the National Center for Performance Incentives (NCPI) held a research conference entitled NCLB: Emerging Findings. The conference brought together more than 20 policy analysts and prominent scholars from the education policy research field to present and debate emerging findings on the merits and the weaknesses of the No Child Left Behind Act. The most ambitious piece of education legislation enacted by Congress, NCLB is up for reauthorization next year.
Second Annual CALDER Research Conference
CALDER’s second annual conference on value-added measures was held on Friday, November 21, 2008. Much the year’s work was showcased with a focus on the policy relevance of research findings. More than 140 individuals were in attendance and our webcast efforts were very successful for those who could not attend. CALDER researchers focused on the value-added modeling of teacher credentials and the policy implications for teacher salary schedules, licensure, and accountability systems. Researchers also discussed the use of value-added measures for designing and implementing effective teacher retention, teacher compensation, and tenure policies. Also discussed were some technical considerations when using value-added measures.
Value Added Measures Conference
On May 23, CALDER and the University of Wisconsin cosponsored a discussion of value-added measures and how these research advancements can inform policy innovations in education.
First Annual CALDER Research Conference
CALDER's first annual research conference took place in October 2007. The conference's focus was the development and use of state and district administrative databases for research purposes. The next annual conference will occur in the fall of 2008.
